This lure
may become your secret weapon. It’s not just a lure, it’s a system.
From start to finish, this lure will catch Muskies (Bass Pike and
Walleyes too) all season long. By using this system, you will learn
structure better than any locator can teach you.
It excels
fished parallel to weedlines, drop offs, points, and breaklines in 5 to
25 feet of water.
The Musky Hare is 8" long and
weighs 1.5 ounces.
It’s a
jig, but whatever you do don’t jig it! Cast it out and let it settle to
the bottom. Point the rod at the lure and reel three cranks. Watch the
line. When it settles back, reel three cranks and watch the line.
Repeat all the way back to the boat. Strikes will normally occur as the
lure settles back to the bottom and you will see the tell-tale hop of
the line. Set the hook.
When the
Musky Hare is below the boat, reel straight up as though it is fleeing
and watch for follows. If you get a follow, do the normal
figure-eight. But if the fish doesn’t hit, let the Musky Hare free-fall
back to the bottom. Once again, it’s getting away and the Musky will
make a beeline after it.
Keep one
rigged on an extra rod for other follows. This could be the best
throw-back lure for follows you have ever used.
Another
way to cover more water with the Musky Hare is to swim it. Cast it out
and let it get to the bottom. Then using the rod (lifting 12-18”) and
reeling continuously, keep it swimming just above the bottom, over
rocks, over weeds, making occasional contact.
The Musky
Hare weighs about ¾ ounce wet and fishes best on a medium-heavy spinning
rod or a bass “flippin” rod loaded with 12-17 pound clear-blue line.
It sports
a 60# wire leader and heavy duty custom hook. Air dry thoroughly before
